With the increase in Pocket Bike popularity, both as a means of transport and a fun machine, has come a
flood of Cheap Pocket Bikes. Never before have they been so affordable and of course parents and enthusiasts alike
are snapping up bargains all over the place. But are they getting good value for money? Let’s take a look at some
of the differences between Cheap Pocket Bikes and the dearer models.
It must be kept in mind that any pocket bikes selling for around the few hundred dollar mark are going to be
mass-produced items usually from China and the workmanship and materials are not going to be equal to the dearer
bikes. As usual it comes down to you get what you pay for.
This raises the question of whether or not you are better spending the extra money ( and it can be quite a bit )
for the more well-known brand bikes or not? The answer comes down to a few different factors with the first one
being who is going to use the bike and what is the bike’s primary function.
If you are buying a Pocket Bike to be used as daily transport then it goes without saying that if you want a
reliable bike you are better off spending the extra cash on a well-known brand. If the bike is going to be used by
the kids for a bit of fun on the weekends then a cheaper bike may work out to be more cost-effective. What you need
to keep in mind is that you are buying a cheaper product and expect it to perform in such a manner.
The number one consideration if you decide to go for the cheaper bike is are there spare parts readily available
and if you are not handy with the spanners is there someone who will service and repair your bike when needed? Make
no mistake about it at some time in a Cheap Pocket Bike’s life it will need repair and if spares are not easily
bought you may as well save your money and buy the dearer brand.
Compared to the brand name bikes things like tires, chains, sprockets, suspension components etc are prone to
wear out faster on the cheap bikes. In fact, the chain adjustment is something that you should be constantly
aware of as the number of broken gearbox cases we have seen from the chain coming off the sprockets is huge.
Some of these bikes were only a week or two old and the amount of chain stretch in that short amount of time was
enough to allow the chain to come off the sprockets!
Of course check out the length of the warranty offered before deciding on a purchase and be sure to read
the fine print as you don’t want to find out later that a number of items are not included in the
warranty.
Given that a Cheap Pocket Bike can give hours and hours of fun for a very small outlay they are a very popular
choice but just bare in mind that you aren’t spending a lot and the bike may not perform to the standards of
the dearer models.
