Cheap Gas Scooters
The Humble Gas Scooter is making a comeback! A sharp increase in gas prices and concerns
for the environment have seen more and more people resort to utilizing the benefits of owning a scooter for
commuting to work or just generally getting around.
Certainly the current economic situation has played a part in the increased use of
Scooters. Many people have been forced to ‘tighten their belts’ and are not in a position to waste precious dollars
filling up a gas-guzzling car and while having a car is still essential for long trips or carrying more than one
passenger, a Scooter is a good alternative for short or inner-city commutes.
An increase in traffic congestion is also a contributing factor with a Scooter being a lot
more maneuverable in heavy traffic and of course, easier to park once you are at your destination. The people in
many European and Asian countries have embraced the use of Scooters for their everyday travels for a long time and
in many densely populated areas a Scooter is considered to be the only way to get around.
With this increase in Scooter use has come many different manufacturers looking to
capitalize on this growth. Manufacturers of Scooters are now more than ever increasing their range and making
Scooters that are not only super-efficient but also have a good number of safety and comfort features. A Scooter no
longer has to be looked at as ‘bare-bones’ transport as many brands have on offer Scooters that have for instance,
body kits, full instrumentation, comfortable seating, protection from the elements and any number of different
engine sizes usually from around 40cc up to around the 150-200cc mark.
There is the electric range of Scooters to be considered also which offer virtually zero
emissions, except for the emissions involved in producing the electricity to charge them, and with the advent of
Sealed Lead Acid Batteries their distance range is considerably longer compared to models that were available five
to ten years ago.
Naturally there are pro’s and con’s of each different type of scooter and deciding on the
right Scooter for you involves looking at how much you are willing to spend, how the Scooter is going to be used
(distance of travel etc), where the Scooter can be stored while not in use and probably most importantly
what licensing or registration is needed to operate the Scooter in your area and if any what restrictions
in usage are placed on Scooter owners. A check with your local Roads/Transportation Department is highly
recommended before deciding on a particular model of Scooter, although many retailers will be able to provide
this information to you.
